In India, there are two different types of MSME, according to how much the firms invest in machinery and plants. They are as follows:

  • In this category are micro-enterprises with incomes under IINR 25 lakh, small businesses with incomes below IINR 5 crores, and medium businesses with incomes less than IINR 10 crores.

Service Enterprises:

  • Micro businesses with income below INR 10 lakh, small businesses with income below INR 2 crores, and as the last group of MSME service businesses, medium enterprises with incomes of less than INR 5 crores can also be considered to be service enterprises.

Both types of enterprises are able to be registered as MSMEs by the MSME Act.
